Where do i go to become a singer?

Do you know any companies/studios that i could go to, to be "found", I live in NYC so if you know anything close, if not i'm willing to jump on a plan and go somewhere else. Do you know a good record label i could contact somehow? Or a studio i could call? anything. please help!

This may sound odd, but start out on Youtube. There have been so many artists that have gotten discovered (and gained contracts) on youtube. (eg-Esmee Denters, Mia Rose, etc...) Just post some videos of yourself singing and get feedback from the "audience". It will be good practice and you may get discovered there. Also, if you have the chops, you could try out for American Idol. If you're not interested in that, search around in your phonebook. You're bound to find something!
