  1. Melbourne is on a Bay not a Surf Coast all tho its only a few hours away. We also get 4 Seasons so you wont be doing  much Beach stuff for at least 1/2 a year. We are also big on Sports arts & Food.

Sydney has warmer weather but not a lot warmer same for Adelaide so your choices are Queensland , Northern Territory  or Western Australia.

There are also many other smaller cities out there on the coast that would suit you in those states.

  2. melbourn has the most to offer for culture in aus, its a big city with plenty to do and some lovely suburbs, it has st kilda's beach which is not the best in aus and the weather isnt either but thats where i would choose.

for the best weather, beaches and the most relaxed way of life i would say perth.

the gold coast is just high rise beach front.

    adelaide is nice but small.

i cant help with the work advice though, other than a british friend of mine (shes a pharmacict) got a job right away at a hospital in melbourn when she arrived.

  3. Melbourne is without doubt the best. You will have no problems finding a job, but accommodation will be tough for a start. You may have to rent a unit, if you can find one, and the cats are a problem. Many landlords refuse pets like cats and dogs. They will have to go into quarantine, and many councils have restrictions on keeping them, as they are dangerous to our wildlife.

I suggest it will be best to find a job before you come out, then you will have to get residency status, best to contact Australia House, they will help you, nurses are in demand, so you will fit the criteria.

Melbourne is drier than Sydney, it rains there nearly all the time, unfortunately it doesn't rain enough here so we are under tight water restrictions because the Govt. won't build a new dam. Plenty of safe bayside beaches within 1/2 an hour of the city, and ocean beaches about an hour away. Inner city acc'n is expensive, it depends on how much money you can bring with you where you can buy or rent.

  4. The WA Health Dept is recruiting overseas nurses, and WA is going thru an economic boom whereas the rest of Australia and the world is not, so you'd be better off financially in the long run.

There are some really nice Towns (with Hospitals) in the South West like Margaret River and Denmark that would offer a brilliant lifestyle fitting with what your after.

  5. Cairns - North Qld in the tropics. http://www.cairns.com.au

For profiles on suburbs see http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/cairns/comm...  (I would suggest living in the Northern Beaches area - such as Trintiy Beach, Kewarra Beach, Palm Cove and Clifton Beach.   all 15 mins to the city or the main hospital.  No confusing busy motorways etc.. population around 130,000

You won't have any problems finding a job as a nurse.  If fact if you go to the EXPO in Britain in October; Immigration will help you and job offers are being made. http://expo-australia.com  also see http://www.workingin-australia.com for everything about working in Australia

Cairns has alot of arts and crafts, markets etc... 55 beaches - most deserted.  You'll never own a heater here!

Information on the Cairns Base Hospital here http://www.health.qld.gov.au/wwwprofiles...

If you want something different and see the country how about working for the Qld Flying Doctors service - see http://www.flyingdoctor.org.au/index.cfm... and http://www.flyingdoctor.net/Career-Path-...

    Good Luck

  6. It depends what sort of life style you want...

If you like all-year-round tropical weather (warm but humid) try Brisbane or Surfer's Paradise. Brisbane has beautiful city parks, and an artificial beach along the city river facing the skyline. Theme parks are around an hour's drive away if you are planning on having kids visiting.

You might like Melbourne. It has a classy feel with a lot of fine restaurants and historic buildings mixed in with a modern city, and it's the fashion and shopping capital of Australia. Also housing is more affordable in Melbourne and on average has higher average wages.

Adelaide has warm weather in summer, and has nearly no humidity. Adelaide also doesn't have as much traffic as the other cities. There are plenty of beaches lining the coast, ranging from crowds of families to your own private secluded fields of sand.

  7. san francisco....not a lot of humidity....lots of sights...sunny... the beaches are there (water is cold)...just steer clear of the g*y section unless thats your thing

  8. Nurses can get work ANYWHERE in Aus..

so trust me you won't have problems with that.

It all depends how much money you have to spend on houses/rent or whatever...

Adelaide is a lovely city. Its big enough and it's not hectic like the bigger Melb and Syd etc.

Yes of course it has beaches! lol. it's on the coast..

the weather there is usually pretty good. much better than melbourne's 4 seasons in 1 day weather..

the gold coast is so so sooooooo commercial and touristy. my friend just came back from a holiday there and she said her and her bf were the only non-asians on the entire beach.

in Victoria check out Geelong. It's the biggest town out of Melbourne in the state and it's on the beach...

there are plenty of nice places just get a map and look at the towns and google them...

i'm sure you will find somewhere to love.

  9. I'm from the U.S. and lived for  1 1/2 years in Brisbane, Australia.  I loved it!  We were 45 minutes from The Gold Coast (the best beaches in the world in my opinion!) and not far from the Sunshine Coast (again, beautiful!).  Very close to Fraser Island...World Heritage listed, largest sand island in the World....and gorgeous!

Australia has a shortage of Doctors, I know of.  Not sure about nurses but you should have no troubles in the healthcare field in my opinion.   I think you would have an easier time getting a position in one of the many Brisbane hospitals as opposed to one at the Gold Coast.  My husband worked at Princess Alexandra Hospital for many years and said there were many Brits working there as well.  (He's an Aussie...family from Brisbane).

Melbourne is known for "having 4 seasons in one day" but then again...I've heard the same about parts of Britain as well...so I don't know.

Not sure how costs/prices for real estate are in U.K. but in Australia they are high!  (Thus why I live in the U.S.!).

In conclusion - I vote for Brisbane area...I don't think you would be disappointed.  Good luck and Best wishes to you wherever you choose and wherever you go!

  10. If I was to move there, I would want to move to Melbourne, as it is a charming place and the city has great things to offer. There are beaches  there in the suburbs. The only thing you may not like is the weather, as it is unpredictable. They say it gets four seasons in a day. When I was there, it was cold and wet and I had to buy a coat. That was April time, so would have been Autumn in Australia. Otherwise I would suggest Brisbane. You have everything you need in the city. It is true the Gold Coast has very high waves and is better for surfing, but the Sunshine coast is more like the Med, with gentle waves. You would have the choice. You can reach either of them within an hour. There is lots to explore near Brisbane, with national parks and various islands as well. There are also several craft fairs held throughout the year in the surrounding countryside. You would like Montville I think, in the nearby Glasshouse Mountains. You could visit that village. Consult a guide book as well to give you an idea. You will get nursing work anywhere. There are agencies in all the big cities too. I would not recommend Adelaide. It is a lifeless and boring little city. Have fun choosing!

  11. From what youv'e said, I reccommend Gold Coast or Brisbane in Queensland. Warm all year round. If not, I say Melbourne

  12. Everybody seems to want to live here on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula.

We have a placid beach all the way along 30+ kilometres to swim. Or the 'back' (ocean) beach to surf, collect shells, rockpools etc.

All the celebrities live here. Jerry Lewis has a house. Nicholas Cage visits often with his new girlfriends. Dawn Fraser the Olympic swimmer. Tina Arena the 'singer'. Malcolm Frasier the ex-Prime Minister. Too many to mention. But it says something about the lifestyle here.

Our winters are cool and the summers are hot but the beach air cools it down.

    As for hospitals.

We have a public hospital in Rosebud. And a major one in Frankston 30 minutes away, in not heavy traffic.

And about another 10 on the way to the City.

Private hospitals are 2 in Mornington. The Bays where I am going to work is gorgeous.

    Rosebud Surgicentre.

Frankston has Peninsula Private. Frankston Private and Frankston Day Stay.

Then LOT'S more just past Frankston.

We are really spoilt for choice down here with Nursing.

As for Adelaide. Is does have a beach. I can't really comment on Adelaide as I have only been there a few times. But will be there again this Saturday on my way to beautiful Streaky Bay to work in the hospital there.

The Gold Coast has SURF beaches only. And it's hot and hummid most of the time. They are still getting weather temps in the low 30's there and it's nearly winter.

  13. Darwin, it has everything u need and want. Lots of nursing jobs aswell. Lots of great beaches, plenty of awesome swimming holes. The weather is Good ALL Year round!, not like the other places, stinkin hot summers freezing winters, up here its nice n sunny all yr round.

The people are friendly here not like in other states where u are just a number here u are a person.

Lots of places to see heaps of things to do all yr round.

Darwin has its own unique life style, no other state even compares to us.
