  1. Charging different prices is not cheating, but calling less than a gallon a gallon is called fraud. In Texas, this falls under the Department of Agriculture, not sure about California.

    Edit:

In California it's also the Department of Agriculture.

  2. So you're saying that the pump is dispensing something less than a measured gallon, right?

First, check the pumps - there should be a sticker on there from the State showing when the pump was last calibrated. Since the State makes tax money off the sale of gas, the State is very interested in being sure that the pump is accurate (I'd say they're more interested for this reason than for protecting the consumer, though the end result is the same).

Write down any pertinent information from the sticker (date, serial #, anything) and contact the Bureau of Weights and Measures in Sacramento. Try to be as detailed as possible (on this date I paid X dollars which should have bought Y gallons. My gas tank holds Z gallons so the gauge should have showed about <certain amount> and it does if I buy the same amount from another station (give name and address of that station as well). Remember, these are bureaucrats - they only respond to complaints that have substance.

It's not just cheating, it's illegal with a huge fine.

  3. charging different prices is not cheating.  Each station sets their own prices.

  4. call the better bidness bureau

    .

And of course the California Attorney General's office.

  5. Call the weights and measures department in CA.  They will send someone over there to investigate.  Here is the web site and the info you need to tell you how to go about it.  Good Luck!

  6. The price isn't the issue here it is if you get one gallon for every gallon paid for. If it is off the the weights and measures department for the state of California is who you need to call.

  7. Bureau of Weights and Measures?

  8. State Department of Agriculture, weights and measures.

You can also call police, for fraud investigation.

  9. Tell your local Crips and Bloods.  La Familia would be quite effective also.
