  1. The first thing you need to do is figure out what genre in which you want to specialize. Landscape, portraiture, fashion, documentary, wedding, fine art, commercial, photojournalist, etc. Until you get that question answered you'll be floundering a bit. If you are unsure (which is not unusual) then shoot as many different subject types as possible and see which makes you happiest and for which you have a talent.

As others have said, practice, practice, practice. Shoot photos as often as you can, but with a purpose. It does no good to shoot without first considering why you are creating an image in the manner you chose. Explore options. Think.

BTW, don't worry about a specific camera, yet. Work on your artistic vision first  (even with a inexpensive point and shoot) and worry about the shiniest new camera gear later.

    Good Luck

  2. you've gotta build a portfolio or nobody will pay you do take what they don't know you can do.

take photos for free to get a wide range of pix

buy a backdrop if you want to do portraits

buy a fast zoom lens if you want to do sports

buy a wide angle lens if you want to shoot nature or architecture

buy a macro (extreme close-up) lens if you want to shoot small stuff, food, and abstract textures that will look like fine art.

  3. buy a camera then ask specific questions,  a night school course would do wonders

  4. I'm in the process of doing this right now for a career...to start all you need is a camera... take photos of EVERYTHING regardless if you think it wont look right... a lot of people look for interesting shots that no one ever sees... if you're talking about education wise... basically every college offers a photography class ... and you will have to start out with the basics with a 35mm camera (film) and you will use a wet dark room which is where you develope film and prints and it's seriously awesome! Technically you dont need schooling to be a photographer you just need to know what you are doing and you need to know everything about cameras which is easy when you have the internet and a manual other than that all you need is a great camera and a good eye!

  5. You can start off with a good camera, and take some shots of like scenery at first and people and such, you can move up as you go along and get better cameras. I would start off with a polaroid camera or a digital camera.

  6. Take pictures.
