Where do i take an injured pigeon!!!!! ?

Question

have an injured pigeon in my garden (cant fly and keeps falling over on its tummy). i know they are vermin but my sons spotted it now and wants me to do something to save it!!!!! i cant afford to take it to vet what do i do?!

If you're in Australia, call WIRES, they are a volunteer organisation that takes in sick/ injured birds... you can find them in the phone book

Sorry, but the only thing to do is to call the RSPCA who will put it down.  It's illegal to release an animal back into the wild.

The alternative is to watch it slowly die.

It depends on where you are, but I would advise looking up animal rescuers on the internet.They list all types of animal and bird rescuers in the UK. Please do not follow the advice offered by some of the above about feeding. Give it plenty of water and if you happen to have some dried soup type veggies around the house...split peas, lentils unsalted peanuts or even the seeds off your seeded loaf :) but white bread contains absoloutly no benficial protein for birds.

I wouldn't personaly call the RSPCA because the result is usually that the bird is put down.

You could call the RSPCA to collect it, but they will only put it down. You could try putting it in a box  some where safe away from foxes and  try giving it some food soft stuff, like bread soaked in milk and some water and see if it gets better itself. It might just be in shock.

Seriously, any pigeion fanciers around you?  They might take it off you for the sake of your kid.  Or ring a vet and explain and see if they will take it. Wouldnt even ring the RSPCA from experience they are not interested in birds.

the best you can do is give it some food bread and water but mince up the bread into tiny peices and give the pigeon a mail box.

take it to a vet and let them know youre just dropping it off and the vet wont have you pay for it and they will take it off ur hands

Well I don't know about your specific situation but one time I found a bird that had one of its eyes pecked out and looked really sick. I took it inside and put it in an old fish tank, and gave it some bird seed and water and some sticks to climb around on. After a few days it was hopping around and healthy again so I let it free. Take it to your local SPCA.  It a non-profitably humane society for all animals and would help any who need it. Its like an animal shelter. Most cities or counties should have one.

depends where your from, but any ranger for injurered wild life should help. kudos to you for wanting to help it. alot of scum bags would jsut leave it for dead.

call your local animal controll emergincy number, they will have a local bird rescue number to give you.

It needs to be humanely killed. The RSPCA can do it, but it doesn't take a genius to quickly kill a Pigeon.

Your son will learn a valuable lesson: Death happens to all creatures.
