  1. a hotel

  2. they probaly stay in  their house & look for aparts on the internet

  3. I did this recently... and stayed in an "extended stay suite" at the Travellers Inn Hotel. They give you weekly or monthly rates that are much cheaper than paying nightly, so it's really not too bad. It depends what time of year you rent though -- during tourist season or summertime their rates will be higher than in the winter time. Call around and find an extended stay hotel by you :)

  4. when I moved to Palm Springs from the LA area I drove out on a couple of saturdays to look at apts till I found one I liked.  When I moved to sw WA I stayed at my sisters till I got my apt.  Now I doing online search  because I want to move out of state again.  I put myself on waiting lists in 2 states, this time I'll be renting w/o looking at the place.

Check to see if CRAIGS List has postings for that area.  Bring references, proof of income with you.

Also your ss# card for a lot of places asj for that now too.
