that they are well adapted to tropical regions... where ever that is.

    And on wikipedia it says:

"native to South America, Central America, the West Indies and the Southern U.S.A."

  5. Actually, the term "mystery snail" was coined by people in fish shops for any of the many varieties of snails that they couldn't identify!  So they simply sell them as mystery snails.  Most are various species of trapdoor snails, some of which are native to Malaysia, parts of the USA and South and Central America.  Others are apple snails, different varieties of which are native to different areas.  For example, Pomacea Bridgesii apple snails are native to South and Central America.  Caniculata apple snails are native to Florida and other parts of the Southeastern USA.  Apple snails were also intentionally imported into Hawaii and Asia to be a food source, however they escaped into native waters where they began eating native plants and have become a pest.  In Asia they do a lot of damage to rice crops and are now considered a non-native invasive species.  In some parts of Africa and other areas of the world they are illegal to import or own as aquarium inhabitants.
