Where do names of hurricanes come from?

  1. The National Hurricane Center in the U.S. makes up a list of names for each season.  They're chosen far in advance of the actual season in question.  Names of particularly bad storms are generally retired.


  2. they go by the alphabet, they pick a random name for each letter and i think they also alternate male-female names

  4. These days names of hurricanes are selected by World Meteorological Organization (WMO).  They have six lists of both womens and mens names of each letter of the alphabet (except Q, U and Z).  The list is rotated every six years.  Find out more at wisegeek.com/how-are-hurricanes-named
