do they hatch outside & fly in when they smell rotten fruit or do they already live on the fruit & hatch when it starts 2 rot? As soon as I get rid of the fruit, the nats disappear as well!

  1. They are not gnats they are fruit flies, and they get into your home by buying fruit that they have been attracted to because it is starting to smell. They are attracted to anything that is ripe to over ripe, and they are really fond of rotting fruit. They do not infest the fruit until it is really rotting bad, so if they are in your home it is because you have brought home a piece of fruit that they were on. They are an annoyance but easy to get rid of. Just make sure you inspect everything you are going to bring home. They are easy to see in the store because they will be in the produce section in clouds. If you do see them in the store don't purchase any of the produce and report this to the manager. They will have to get rid of them.

  2. I don't know ,but someone said to put apple cider vinegar in a bowl and the nats would go to it and drown.

  3. They come in from outside.  Without rotting vegetation to eat they die off quickly.
