  1. "What is now China was inhabited by Homo erectus more than a million years ago.[3] Recent study shows that the stone tools found at Xiaochangliang site are magnetostratigraphically dated 1.36 million years ago.[4] The archaeological site of Xihoudu (西侯渡) in Shanxi Province is the earliest recorded of use of fire by Homo erectus, which is dated 1.27 million years ago.[3] The excavations at Yuanmou and later Lantian show early habitation. Perhaps the most famous specimen of Homo erectus found in China is the so-called Peking Man discovered in 1965.

The Neolithic age in China can be traced back as early as 10,000 BC[6] Early evidence for proto-Chinese millet agriculture is carbon-dated to about 7,000 BC.[7] The Peiligang culture of Xinzheng county, Henan was excavated in 1977.[8] "

  2. They are are not called Oriental & dont like it either. They like to be called Asians, thats what they are. I work with alot of them & I asked the same question. They dont like that word.

  3. All we know is that 65 million years ago we were all mice living off stolen dinosaur eggs, then they were wiped out because the universe didn't like them and we had to learn how to stand on our own two feet, possibly the oldest saying in our evolution.

    We'll be discovering fire next!

  4. We all came from Africa. East Asians as Im guess Oriental is a wrong term they migrated from Africa to Central Asia over 70 thousand years ago

This is the oldest ethic group in the world hence all our ancestors looked like this

The san of Central and Southern Africa

They share the same slanted eyes as Asians a trait used for protection in deserts (Kalahari desert) or extreme amount of sunlight being reelected off snow (Central Asia)

  5. Everyone came from Africa, originally. Over thousands of years, different populations have evolved very slightly differently. However the differences are literally only skin deep.

Re the 'oriental' term, I think this is a usage difference between the US and the UK. In the UK, we use the term 'Asians' to refer to people descended from those from the Indian subcontinent. So those whose ancestors originated in countries like China, Japan, Korea etc are still called Orientals here. It's not offensive, any more than using 'black' rather than the US-specific term 'African-American' is offensive to people from that community.

  6. first honey its politically incorrect to use the word orientals... and as for ur question there are tons of reason from geographical location to the food they eat to genetic flow. its a complicated answer the same as why blacks from Africa look different to the ones in the USA, Jamiaca, etc...

  7. Orientals are Asians so they originate from Asia :)

  8. As a Chinese guy, all I know is that we non-Cantonese Chinese came from the Middle East around 3500 BC.

  9. It depends on the school of theory you come from. Not long ago there was a fascinating documentary (sorry I can't give you the name of it). This guy started in Africa doing DNA testing and then went all over the world. He traced where the original humans were from and then where their descendants moved to.

Many believe that we are all a variation on the originals - some people have lighter skin because of generations of living in regions with less sun. Features evolved according to where people migrated to and the conditions there.

He traced a path going across Europe into Asia where many early humans settled. Interestingly enough, he connected Asians with some tribes of Native Americans, believing they passed through Alaska on their way to spreading out over North and South America.

  10. You're going to get flamed for saying oriental.

Whether you're Asian or not, other people will find it offensive. Just saying. It's outdated terminology and it pisses people off.

Latrel, I wasn't even being mean. There was a huge outburst a couple days ago because someone used the term oriental. I was trying to help.

  11. First, words come and go.  Asian is the more accepted term, but Asia is a big place, with many ethnic groups.  For example, Chinese and East Indians are as different as European and African.

It is more or less accepted that we humans all came from Africa.  As we moved out of Africa, changes occurred to adopt to the local environment, such as lighter skin in the North.  Depending on the degree of "isolation" of each ethnic group, the degree of variances within that group can also change.  For example, it is extremely unlikely to see a Chinese with other than brown eyes, as this group was much isolated from the rest of the humanity for many centuries due to the geographical barriers, like the Pacific Ocean and the mountain ranges.

Lastly, I am sorry that you don't know much about your own background.  I am Asian and I can trace my family tree 13 generations back.
