Question:

Where do people attain money for college?

I realize that the vast amount of college freshmen attend college out of their parent's pockets...My parents are wonderful people, but I'm the last child, and my 70 year old working father is ready to retire. They have paid for a child to go to Vanderbilt, and then sent him to Creighton along with my sister. Now it has come time for me, and my poor father is still paying off my siblings' tuition's. I would try to apply for Financial Aid, but my father makes too much for me to qualify ( Even though I am an independent, if I don't report what he earns, I will be denied....as I will be denied if I do). College starts in a week (no, I didn't procrastinate, I didn't know I was going to attend). Needless to say, I am worried about finances...I work a full time night job as a waitress, and have to make rent. I really didn't want to start out my future in debt, but short of scholarships (which I can't seem to find ones that aren't scams), I'm stuck! Where do people find money to attend college? The grant and scholarship programs I have found on line look like scams. I'm going to talk to my Financial Aid office, but does anyone else have any ideas???? Thank you!

  1. what i do is google free money and scholarship

i really like fastwebs they do have some interesting scholarships like tall girls and tall boys if you dig you can find scholarships for anything or take surveys that pay you

  2. There are lots of places to get scholarships but you have to be willing to do the work and write as many essays as it takes here are some of the best websites to search for a lot of different scholarship:

    http://www.fastweb.com/

    http://www.petersons.com/finaid/file.asp...

    http://www.collegeboard.com/student/inde...

these are just some of the websites you can use, if you google scholarships you'll get a million and one other websites to look at, but like i said it a lot of work, but if your willing to sit down and do hours of research it can really pay off.

    Good Luck in your search

  3. You may want to check out this scholarship site:

    http://www.instantscholarshipsearch.com

BTW, what major are you taking? Some scholarships are awarded to people taking a specific major. Who knows, maybe your school or other private organizations offer scholarship awards based on the major you're going to take. You can ask your financial aid office about that.
