The Genesis story includes a specific detail that proves they would have died anyway. Do you know what it is?

  1. I remember it says, of the tree, that when you eat of it you will surely die. Since they didn't immediatly die, but lived long lives, it follows they must have been immortal previously, it does say later however that an angel must guard the tree of life (different from the tree of knowledge) or else man would become like God/s. So once again the common sense test is failed.

  2. Bible/No.

  3. It was a spiritual death, separation from God.  That is why Jesus was sent, as a bridge to that separation.

  4. Many people believe death is a punishment for sin.

    Yee-Hah!

    The Marlboro Man

  5. There were actually two trees in the garden that they were forbidden access to.  The tree of knowledge and then the tree of eternal life.  They ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge, but not of the other.  And logic dictates that if they were immortal, then they wouldn't have been denied the tree of eternal life because it wouldn't make a difference to them.

  6. From the Bible where else?

Adam, the first man, had the prospect of living forever on a paradise earth. (Genesis 1:26, 27) He would die only if he ate from “the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.” (Genesis 2:17) But because Adam and his wife, Eve, disobediently ate from that tree, God pronounced the death sentence. ‘In the day they ate from it,’ they died in God’s eyes and began their tumble into physical death. Their life was no longer of the quality that they had enjoyed at first.

The death sentence came AFTER they ate.

    So what was your Question?

  7. It says if they eat of the tree they will surely die. It was interpreted as a physical death. We believe it is a death of the personal relationship with God.

  8. "Die" has two meanings in the Bible.

    There is physical death.

And then their is "spiritual" death...(separation from God)

When Adam and Eve sinned, they "died" spiritually".

We have all inherited sin from Adam and Eve and are born "spiritually" dead.  It is not until we are born again that we inherit eternal life.  We will never be separated from God again...not in this life or after physical death.

  9. you and i are going to live forever, smoking or non-smoking
