How important is a sense of identity ?

What happens if you don't have one ? Sometimes I don't really know who I am , what I am or where I fit in society.

And because I have no sense of identity. I don't have much direction in life or know what I want.

How important is a sense of identity in romantic relationships ? Don't people fall in love with someone who mirrors their identity ?

Can you survive without knowing who you are or where you belong ?

  1. Age is very important concerning a sense of identity  ---you do not state this. Most people who are successful in life identify themselves based on their s*x, their skills, their education (personal power-competency), their interests, hobbies, talents, etc.

Developing a skill or hobby you enjoy becomes both part of your self-identity and a source of pleasure.

Being a bit confused and uncertain about identity is a normal part of growing-up. It can cause minor stress which motivates you to develop skills and competency.

Developing good people-skills and having friends gives you a self-identity as a nice person. This skill is valuable regardless of what you do in life. Good luck!

  2. I think your identity starts when you are born. How you are raised, what your beliefs are and then later what your goals are.

We are usually products of our families and then we mold ourselves from there. We learn from life experiences and the end result is our indentity.

    Take care
