People always try and say that the shelter animals need to be adopted and they say don't shop in pet shops. I would really like to know.

  1. I work for Petsmart and we just keep the animals there. I have worked there over a year and an african fat-tailed gecko has been there just as long. I think he's sweet as can be. His price has been lowered in an attempt to encourage people to buy him.

My manager doesn't order animals until we have room for them. We have to tell customers that we aren't getting any more hamsters in because the older ones have yet to sell.

If an animal stays too long at my store, they usually end up being bought by an associate.

~Petsmart usually has animals up for adoption as well. Unfortunately we have people that try to pass unwanted animals off on us. Although it is against policy to take back an animal after the fourteen day guarantee, we often take them anyway. We've had people leave animals in boxes in front of the store. Obviously these animals can't be sold, so we care for them until a home can be found.

  2. I asked the same question to a Petco worker a few days ago! He said that they are taken somewhere where there are a ton of the same animal species, though that doesn't really make any scence. Its really sad but in my opinion, they kill the animals. Be sure to NEVER shop at Petsmart because they get their animals from an incredibly cruel company and many have diseases and were tourchured! Its awful.
