Where do "Hob Nobs" get their name ?

Is it from Hob, as in the Devil?

Is his old feller malformed like these biscuits ?

If he dunked it, would it disintegrate in unswallowed???

My understanding is that it stems from the aristocrats, in that to "Hob-Nob" was to mix with them socially.

They being the "Nobs", and us common folks the "Hobs"
