Where do shoes come from?

Who actually makes shoes? I'm looking to have some synthetic women's dress sandals made in a unique way and possibly in bulk. While there are many shoe stores, I can't locate the companies/factories that actually design and make the shoes. Who makes shoes?

Most of them are made in China and other third world countries.  You might look around for an importer.
