Where do the flux lines of Earth's magnetic field come out of the ground? Is there anything special there? Can their existence be observed or demonstrated in person?

  1. Here are some maps:

    http://www.nationalatlas.gov/articles/ge...

If you had a magnetised needle, I guess it would point straight up&down

  2. They "come out" or "go in" everywhere, but they are densest at the magnetic poles. They "come out" most densely at the one in the far south and "go back in" most densely at the northern one.

  3. Scott is correct; flux lines are just an invention to help visualize magnetic fields.  There are no actual lines, the field is distributed continuously throughout the Earth.

  4. The earth's magnetic energy is not static; therefore, there is no constant or known location.  Nothing paticularly special, nor would you know it if you were there.
