  1. in a typical year, tropical storms will be named alphabetically, alternating between male and female names.

there are four lists that the scientists use and rotate through every four years.

exceptionally strong storms (katrina, isabel etc.) are retired (for luck, i spose) and are replaced with a new name on the list

  2. Every other hurricane name is a male's name, and every other hurricane is a girl's name. They come up with a list of names, so there really isn't that much thinking. They just move down the list until the year is over. Then they come up with a list of new hurricane names that follows the same process. This is just a continuous thing that happens every year.

    P.S. I hope this helped.

  3. See the following site for hurricane names:

    Enjoy.

  4. every other letter is a boy's name, every other is a girl's.  they alternate starting boys and girls every year.  the come up with the names off the tops of their heads, there really isn't anything else to it

  5. they made them up a long time ago. you see the same name every 4 years unless a name gets retired becuase of a very strong storm.

they are in alphabetical order, and if they run out of names for the year they go into the greek alphabet like....

    alpha

    beta

    and so on
