  1. I don't know but if anyone has a Permelia Jackson born about 1832 in Alabama, I would love to hear from them.  She was a sister of my gggrandfather, Isaac.

  2. Elvira

Spanish: of Germanic (Visi-gothic) origin, very common in the Middle Ages and still in use today. The original form and meaning of the elements of which it is composed are far from certain (probably ali other, foreign + wer true). The name was not used in the English-speaking world until the 19th century, when it was made familiar as the name of the long-suffering wife of Don Juan, both in Mozart's opera Don Giovanni (1789) and Byron's satirical epic poem Don Juan (1819–24).

    PERMELIA

    Gender: Feminine

    Usage: English

Meaning unknown, possibly an elaborated form of PAMELA

    PAMELA:

The name was invented in the 16th century by the poet Sir Philip Sidney for use in his poem 'Arcadia'. He possibly intended it to mean "all sweetness" from Greek παν (pan) "all" and μελι (meli) "honey."

    Pamela

English: invented by the Elizabethan pastoral poet Sir Philip Sidney (1554–86), in whose verse it is stressed on the second syllable (like puh-MELL-uh). There is no clue to the sources that influenced Sidney in this coinage. It was later taken up by Samuel Richardson for the name of the heroine of his novel "Pamela" (1740). In Henry Fielding's "Joseph Andrews" (1742), which started out as a parody of "Pamela", Fielding comments that the name is “very strange”. Variant: Pamella (a modern spelling).

    Elvira--from Latin for "White, Fair"

Pamela--from Greek for "Sweet as Honey."

  3. Wow, that is amazing.  My g-g-grandmother on my maternal side had the name Elvira, and my g-g-grandmother on my paternal side had the name Permelia.  That is just too strange.  I am not sure of the origin of these names, but they are very old names.

I just did some research and Permelia is Latin and means "sweetness".  Elvira is either Spanish and means "The white" or Germanic and means "alert"
