  1. The emblem was designed by Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games. The five rings stand for passion, faith, victory, work ethic and sportsmanship.  They also represent the colors of every nations' flag, and symbolize unity between all five continents and the union of athletes from each of those continents.  They meant the Americas to be viewed as a single continent, and Antarctica to be omitted. The current 5 continents represented are Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania.
