Where do yellow finches go for summer?

I live in South Carolina.  We only see them in the spring as the migrate back north.  I believe they winter in the areas around the gulf of mexico, and summer in the northeast US and the east of Canada.

they don't go anywhere they stay in the areas they are,they loose their brilliant colouring(males) and look very similar to the females I live in Northern Ontario(Sudbury area) and we have them all winter long at our feeders

They lose their color because the bright color is for mating.
