This is probably a dumb question but I was just curious where do you aim for with a right cross in martial arts? Whether it be boxing, muay thai etc.I've heard people say go for the chin and solar plexus, others just say aim for the face. Just curious whats the most effective spot to aim for with a right cross. Thanks

  1. in martial arts, i aim for wherever they leave open, the nose leaves a stinging pain, the jaw is abitch. the stomach and the ribs are all good,

learn muay thai, it's the best no question.

    well, for me anyway :)

  2. In boxing a good right cross actually goes across the opponent's body, torquing the head of the opponent and ideally ending in a KO.  It's called a "cross" for a reason.  This doesn't work to the body - it's a right straight to the body.

To throw it properly, you have to be slightly out to the right of opponent's center, then move in and throw the punch across their centerline - making contact with the temple, jaw, or chin.  I aim for the ear, so that if they move slightly it catches the jaw or temple.  And if it hits them in the ear, FINE!  That hurts too.

The punch to the face or solar plexus is called a straight.  You can't hit the solar plexus from the right cross position. It's the same punch, just thrown from a different angle, and with different intent.

  3. Aim for whatever is directly behind them if you went through the temple or eye socket or even the jaw.

  4. Where do you aim when throwing a right cross?

    Where ever your target is.

    That was a simple one

  5. temple, jaw hinge, chin, ribs ect. even the breast if it is a female. what ever  you can hit

  6. Anywhere that will hurt them. Preferably, anywhere that will get a knockout.

  7. The easiest most open spot is the best target.  Any you target areas can vary.  However i would asume face or chin because there is a lot of muscle covering the solar plexus which makes this a less than ideal target.   I would use feet, or knees for the solar plexus area

  8. Your aim should be for the back of their head. The intended blow should not be for the surface of where you are striking but for that area beyond it, that way it carries more power when landing.

  9. well you can aim for the chin but i'd normally do that with an uppercut to shake their brain but a good plavce to aim for is at the side of the nose so that way they may start bleeding and the result would effect their breathing and they're muscles would get a minimum amount of air so that way they would get tired and you can finish them off

  10. Right cross is not the most powerful punch. Use it whenever and wherever you have an opening that suits it. I have been KO-d with a right cross in the side of the head though that was not blocked properly and was delivered by a guy with very powerful arms.

  11. Well, there are several different potential answers for that question.

If you are looking for the knock out, I would say go to the chin or side slip and go to the temple. If it is early in the fight and you are looking to do some damage to pay dividends later in the fight I would say go to the eyebrow and look to potentially cut their eye, or you could go to the nose which could temporarily blur their vision and possibly bust or break their nose and thereby affect their breathing for the remainder of the fight. Going to the body either directly to the solar plexus or ribs is another good idea to weaken your opponent and take some of his wind for later in the fight.

Remember that no matter what your target your punch needs to come back to you as fast as it shoots out to them and always aim your shot 3 or 4 inches behind the surface area you intend to strike. Keep your technique clean and your punch straight and fast. Always be aware of your body position, you could have the meanest right cross on the planet, but it you are throwing it while off balance or while having to reach for it you won't be effective with it.

  12. there is no such thing as a dumb question.    Aim for the temple.

  13. It all depends on how you are aligned with your opponent.

If you are standing next to a person who is not facing you, a right cross could be landed square on the nose!

You aim for "your chosen target" above the neck.
