  1. There must be some instruments stores in malls..

  2. haha well i got my 'lectric guitar from costco! that's just me though. :P

you can get a guitar at any music store. here's the most obvious choice though: http://www.guitarcenter.com/

i actually recommend learning piano before guitar though. it's more straightforward and it makes learning guitar a lot more simple. (:

  3. The best place to buy a guitar is a pawn shop.  They don't often have very big selections, and you will have to look around, but you can usually get a good instrument for about 1/2 the normal price.  Also, pawn shops know enough about guitars not to accept junk, so you probably won't get a clunker.

I tell people to never buy an instrument from the internet or a catalog.  I would never buy and instrument I couldn't play first.  Two guitars of the same brand/model can play very differently.

Take a guitar player with you and spend a day shopping and learning about guitars.

    Good luck, future guitar player.

  4. Guitar Center is basically the Wal-Mart of instruments (in the sense of low prices, not cheap products).  They are always having sales.  If there is a store near buy, go check it out.  Even if it's a couple hours away, it might be worth the drive.  They have everything from super cheap to extremely expensive ones to choose from.  If you can't make it to a store, go to their website.  I'm not sure of any other store that can beat their prices.

  5. You buy a guitar at a music store.  Guitar Center and Sam Ash are two of the big nationwide chains with a good selection and reasonable prices, but there are lots of good independent music shops as well.

DO NOT buy a guitar at Costco, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, or Sam's Club -- they have cheapo (low-quality) instruments, very little selection, and sales people who know nothing about guitars.

Also, DO NOT buy a guitar sight-unseen off the Internet or out of a catalog.  You need to try out a guitar, see what it feels like to play it, and listen to what it sounds like before you buy.
