Question:

Where do you buy pants for your skinny-waisted child

With fall approaching, I'm not sure what to buy for my daughter. Her waist is very small and pants in her size all fall down. I can buy them in a smaller size but then they are way too short. She is 6 months old but at least two months away from being out of 3-6 month clothes. Once her baby chub legs are gone, we're doomed - that's what is currently barely holding them up. Anyone know of a brand or store that runs a little slimmer? When she gets older I know that the adjustable waist will probably be my best friend, but I have yet to find any of those that fit. Help!

  1. I have been known to take a few stitches in each side of my kids pants to make the waist smaller. when they get bigger around the waist I snip the stitches on one side at a time.

once she gets bigger there are mail order companies who will do extra long legs on their pants for you...I think land's end does it.

  2. I feel your pain.  My daughter was and still is the same way.  She is now 18 months, 22 pounds and 33 inches long.  Her height puts her into 18-24 month clothes, but her weight is at the beginning of 12-18 months!

Adjustable waist pants don't start until the 18-24 month size, then only in select brands.  Most AW pants are 2T.

I found that Baby Gap pants that had elastic waists stayed up on my daughter.  Most pants that actually button, she couldn't wear, they would fall off the waist.  Most pants that are made as *leggings* were much slimmer and stayed on her well.

I started making my own adjustable waist by sewing a little piece of elastic into the waistband and a button...time consuming, but worked.

I have also rolled down the waistband a bit on some pants, and then they seemed to stay up, but that really only worked with shirts covering the waistband, otherwise she looked dorky!!

Carter's never really worked for my daughter when she was younger, she never really fit into them correctly...they always seemed too big.

  3. well i dont know where your from but a store called "the childrens place" always has the adjustable waists for their pants...on the inside of the jeans there is buttons and like a rubber strip with button holes...they help alot i buy my sons pants a size bigger that way i get more use out of them but using the adjustable waist thing on the inside of his jeans
