  1. You get the industry newspapers from a newspaper kiosk.

They list places to audition and what the auditions are for.  They might say they are auditioning for a blonde haired teenager that can dance... or whatever.  You go to the ones that you would qualify for.

Take your portfolio with your pictures and the "biography" that also lists what you have previously done and your talents and hobbies.

It is good to have an agent, but not neccessary.

  2. You should get an agent first. Check online for listings. You'll need to send in a photo along with a resume and if their interested - they'll call for an appt to see you. They may even sign you up. More then likely - they'll have you take acting courses which last over a year before going on an audition (unless your a natural) Once you have an agent - they will send you on auditions which are heartbreaking many times - so I hope you being sensitive isnt an issue here. Good luck.

  3. You might find Backstage.com very helpful.  It is a resource of vast information for actors to succeed in the industry.  They frequently post audition dates for various kinds of work such as musicals to films to reality tv.  Besides this website, their products also include 2 newspapers: Backstage East (which is based in NYC) and Backstage West (which is a LA centered print).  Both are sold in local newsstands (and some libraries).
