Where do you go online to legally change the name of a boat?

i want to change the name of my boat (40 ft) but i have no idea where to get the nessescary forms online... can anyone help me?

the only thing that the uscg cares about is the regestration not the name but they say its bad luck to change the name of it

You may have to register a change if your vessel is documented. In that case You may have to provide the Coast Guard with the proper documents and fees. A simple state registration requires no reporting of name change.

As for the superstition about renaming your vessel - all the tales and stories are true !!! be very very careful when changing your vessels' name.

But that's another subject!

Go to the court house and see the tax assessor /collector's office. You will need a trailer license and they can take care of your registration.

Since there is no state entity that keeps track of the name of your boat, or even cares what you have named it, there is no on line place to get forms to change it.  There is, however, tradition.

Renaming a boat is, of course, not something to be done lightly. Since the beginning of time, sailors have sworn that there are unlucky ships and the unluckiest ships of all are those who have defied the gods and changed their names. So, is there a way to change a name and not incur the wrath of those deities that rule the elements?

If its registered with the state you have registration numbers and the name does not matter. If its documented with the USCG you should have an official number in the hull someplace and you can get forms if needed from the USCG for a name change.
