  1. I don't know that there is "babysitting" courses. There is child care classes but that is more if you want to do it as a day job. For babysitting experiance and good references is the best way to go- you just have to be good with kids. Taking a CPR class is a good idea that will really go well with parents when trying to get new babysitting job though. I did a lot of babysitting in high school and a lot of the parents called me because their friend gave them my number and told them how good I was with thier kids... if you have nephews or siblings make sure you mention that if you have taken care of them aswell :)

  2. Find out someone in your neighbourhood who has kids who needs babysitting done. Then go over on the week-ends all day, and do the things that babysitters do with the mother there. If you make her a deal that you'll do it for free, and do the kid-related chores (like diperchanges, bathing the kids, etc) so you can get more comfortable around kids. Also, say you'll give her 10 hours of babysitting free, if she'll be your mentor for a week-end or two. At the end of it, you'll know what to do, how to change a diaper, appropriate discipline, etc.

  3. Try your local YMCA or YWCA.  They often have these courses.  You may also try your local dept of social services.  Somebody there should be able to get you the info you need.  Good Luck.
