  1. make sure you take it to the vet get it checked

  2. All decent answers.

If you are going to keep this duck, I want you to go to this site and read all of it.

  3. you'll need a heating lightbulb and an old dog create...Along with a food dish and water dish...You must let it swim when it gets feathers...and please name it Webster after my deceased quacker! Love him for ever okay!

  4. I keep my ducklings in my extra bathroom in a LARGE container. . . cardboard box or plastic storage tub.  I line the container with straw or newspaper but straw last longer and is easier to clean.  If you use a cardboard box you will also have to change that out as well cuz it gets nasty real quick.  Generally you will have to clean your container 2-3 times week.

I use a suspended 100 watt bulb to keep them warm.If they get too hot, they will start to pant and or lay with their little wings open.  Too much heat will take the moisture out of the air and it can make them sound "raspy" . . like they have a chest cold. . . not enough moisture in their lungs.

When I am cleaning my container I allow my ducklings to swim in the bath tub with lukewarm water but I also keep my bathroom warm with a space heater. . . h**l for me but it keeps the ducklings warm.

I never leave them unattended cuz you gotta rescue them when they get tired from staying afloat. . . they aren't waterproof until they get feathers and get them/keep them oiled. . .look at the base of their tail and you will see the oil gland where they get oil to oil themselves.Ducklings can really drown if they are left alone and get tired and can't stay afloat.

Ducklings are really neat to watch as they swim and dive in the water.  Just as much fun to watch when they are "preening" themselves after the swim.

I take them out of the tub and dry off the majority of the water. . . mostly to help keep them from staying too wet too long and getting cold.

You can get duckling Starter Food at a Feed Store.

I feed and water my ducklings with containers too little for them to get in. . .they WILL try to swim in their drinking water if the container is too big.

On warm pretty days I have a make shift chicken wire pen that I allow the duckling to go outside and stay in so they get fresh air and can play and pick at bugs/grass.  Again,I never leave them unattended cuz dogs or cats can come up and get the ducklings.

By the time my ducklings are feathered out (at about 6-7wks old) they are ready to go out to the chicken/duck pen that I have and it is then that I change their feed to Scratch (mixed grains) and Layer Crumbles.

Only after I put them outside do I ever supplement their food with fresh diced veggies/fruits.

I have a small stock tank and wading pool dropped into the ground that I keep water in for their swimming/playing. ( I have 2 pens for chickens/ducks)

Good Luck and enjoy your Duckling

  5. u may feed it chick starter or duck starter but only feed ur duckling chick starter if it is high in protien. u need to build a pen. depending on how old it is u can determin if u can keep it outside at night. u have to make a brooder first. u just have to get a plastic bin, a heat lamp, an old towel, and a food and water dish. u put the towel at the bottom of the bin and then put in the food and water dish. also, u may want to consider geting another duckling for urs because ducks are verry social creatures. if u cant get another duckling then put in an old stuft animal (one that u dont want) so it can snugle up with it at night. u will keep ur duck in the brooder until it is about 1 1/2- 2 weeks old. u will have to have a place for it to stay out side and inside (for night time and if it rains) also ur duck has to be inside at night so u may want to have a place in ur laundry room for it to stay. at 4 or 5 weeks old u can leave ur duck outside at night. be sure to provide a shelter in cane of rain. u probaly want ur ducks inside if it rains even at this age. u can sprinkle some food on the ground as much as u want during the day. leave out a heavy bowel with water in it for them to drink from. the bowel has to be heavy or ur duck will nock it over. also if u dont live on a pond/lake u will want a baby pool so it can swim. keeping ducks is a big resposibility, u can do anything if u set ur mind to it. good luck... hope i helped =)

  6. A box would do for now, but it can't stay there for very long. ducks need space and water. with my ducks we built a little house for him outside using plywood that had holes drilled into it for air circulation. we built it underneath a kid's slide where the four posts were, so we just enclosed that area and fenced the area around it. if you can get your hands on a kiddie pool, that'd be great for the duck to swim in. if you have an agway near you, you can usually get straw to through in the duck's "house" to keep him warm and you can pick up chick cracked corn there as well. don't get the regular cracked corn, as it is too big for them to eat as babies, but later on they could. ducks usually like tomatoes, lettuce, and sometimes eggshells added into their food when it's cut up.

                      good luck!!!

  7. You'll need to keep your bird warm in a box with possibly a light bulb, depending on the age of the young bird.  If it's shivering, put the bulb deep in the box... If it's running around all happy skip the bulb...  watch it all night though to see where it's at.    Buy some game bird starter/crumbles at your local feed store, Tractor Supply or Southern States.  If they only have 50 lb bags, get a small bag of chick starter.  Keep the duck out of water until adult feathers are grown in.

    I hope that this helps!
