  1. Don't get hung up on bike frame sizes.  Go to a good bike shop and get fitted to a bike.  The frame size is measured from the center of the bottom bracket (the bolt that holds the cranks should be the center) to the seat post clamp, IF THE TOP TUBE IS LEVEL!  If it is sloped its trickier than that, you would have to find an imaginary top tube to measure to.  This would be a line from where the top tube connects to the head tube (the part of the frame between the handlebars and forks) level with the ground to the seat post.  Your body's proportions might cause you to ride a smaller or larger frame size than your height would suggest.  A smaller frame is not only shorter in height but also in length.  If you are like me and have long legs and short torso you need to ride a smaller frame to reach the handlebars comfortably and make up for the height difference with longer seat post and hi-rise stem.

  2. the bottom of the frame to either the seatpost clamp or where the seatpost tube meets the top tube, it varies from company to company.  I am a 17" frame, and am 5'4" ish.  I would go with a large frame size, (mine is a med) which would be somewhere around maybe 20"

  3. a good read about fitting a bike.

Fit is more than the size of the bike and your height.

There is seat height and stem/handlebar adjustments too. And even the crank length too.

A bike shop can walk you thru it with purchase of a new bike or they usually charge 40-50 for a basic 1/2 hr fitting of your own bike.

  4. It goes from where the pedals are screwed on the bike to the point right below the seat.  Im 5 feet 2 and needed a 17 inch from so if i were you I would go with a 18 to 21 inch
