I am trying to install a wireless driver, and the site gave me a download for just the drivers but I don't know where to put the files. It is a folder of files such as 6 files, with .sys and .bin and .inf for the file extensions. Where am I supposed to put these on the computer, what location?

  1. usually the programs you install in windows should go to the add or remove programs, not sure where the network drivers would go, but somewhere

  2. You may have to put those files in the program directory of the program itself.  i.e., if it were a Belkin Wireless adapter, the program you installed would be in C:\Program Files\Belkin\ (or) C:\Program Files\<wireless adapterbrand/model>\

Check to see if there is a folder in that directory that may say drivers.  If there are, you'll need to drop them in there.  The web site you downloaded them from, did it give you an option for a setup program or an .exe file?  Those usually do the work for you if they provide it.

  3. If you right-click on the .INF file, the option to Install should be in the menu that pops up. Select that and the .INF file will be used to install the files in their proper places.
