  1. I don't rank him at heavyweight.  He had one fight and he clearly picked the safest opponent in John Ruiz.  Ruiz was slow, with little punching power, and his best offense was the clinch.  Jones could just move and potshot him and Ruiz was too slow to do anything about it.

At heavyweight, I think I could list 30+ fighters throughout history that would have wiped the floor with him!!!

  2. I'm a Roy Jones, Jr. fan, but at heavyweight he is no where near the top 20.  He did win a heavyweight title by beating John Ruiz, but it was a tainted title that had been stripped from the true champon at the time, Lennox Lewis.  I still give Roy a ton of credit for doing what he did by gaining all that muscle and being able to dominate and outbox the c**p out of Ruiz the way he did.  Ruiz was a natural heavyweight who did have decent power even if he was/is one of the most boring fighters of all time; Jones didn't punk out and try to run for the whole night, he actually fought Ruiz and got the better out of most of the exchanges.  At light heavyweight, I firmly believe that no one (except for maybe Archie Moore) could have beaten a prime Roy Jones, Jr.  He was a phenomenal fighter to watch and he put on a clinic each and every time out.  No one could touch him and he had his hands down for the majority of the time!  A lot of people look at the losses to Tarver and Johnson, but the simple fact is that he was passed his prime when he fought them and he still managed to beat Tarver in their first fight when he was weight-drained directly after fighting Ruiz at heavyweight.  He would have easily thrashed both guys if it was a prime Roy.  So, in short he is not ranked at heavyweight because he only had 1 fight there even if it was a title-winning victory.  However at light heavyweight he MUST be ranked as one of the all-time best and I don't care by who because you must give credit where credit is due; I personally have him as the second best light heavyweight of all time behind Archie Moore.

  3. I don't. Calzaghe is going to have his *** at Light Heavy and what Klitschko or even Haye would do to him doesn't bear thinking about.

  4. He only had 1 fight at heavyweight. He would have been too small to beat the great heavies, so would not make top ranking.

  5. As a heavy weight now or ever? We all saw what Tarver did to him. I think he was a great middle weight, but that is it.

  6. I don't at all. His only fight at heavyweight was against an overweight underprepared Ruiz that fought like c**p. He was too slow and sloppy. Any other fighter would have recked him and so would have Ruiz if he had properly prepared. It was way too much of a weight jump for him.

  7. Roy Jones will always be remembered as a great Light Heavyweight because that's where his prime was. When he moved up the Heavyweight its was just a stunt that's why he fought John Ruiz the perfect opponent. Don't get me wrong Ruiz is a tough customer but he was made to order for Jones he came and did everything he was paid to do lose his belt and make Jones look great.

To be considered great at anything their has to be longevity, so that you can fight the best. At heavyweight Jones didn't fight the best he just fought for a belt. Then to compare him too the fighters that were at the top of the Heavyweight divison at the point would be crazy. Lennox Lewis or Vitali Klitschko guys who just overwhelm Jones is size really makes me believe he wouldnt have been Heavyweight Champion for long. I laways hear "size dosent matter" in the Heavyweight divison 9 out of 10 times it does.

SO NO JONES WOULDNT BE CONSIDERED A GEAT HEAVYWEIGHT HE DIDNT FIGHT THEIR LONG ENOUGH.
