I guess that would be hard to do................Grade him on a scale from 1 to 10. I give him an 8, I thiught he was very very good!

A sad day for Atlanta Braves fans, I used to listen to him with my grandfather as a kid.

  1. Although I am sorry to hear about what happened to him, I cannot rate him anywhere near the top. Exactly the opposite.

He was the dullest play-by-play man to ever sit behind a microphone. Extremely boring. Same tone of voice no matter what was happening. He called a dramatic game-winning home run with the same level of excitement as a weatherman predicting a few showers.

His father, Harry, on the other hand, was a true classic. Always exciting, emotional, and fun to listen to.

  2. I can't possibly rate him as far as all time goes. I can't judge that fairly since there have been too many announcers of the past I haven't heard.

I think Skip Carey was a good announcer.

  3. i grew up listening to him.  well, he put me to sleep every time actually.  maybe in the top 30.  i would rate him a 5.

  4. Skip made the game fun. Even during the 80's when the Braves were so bad, he kept things interesting.

Who could ever forget his feed during the Goodwill games when the Russians were trying to promote a sport played on mototcycles, on ice, with a ball, similar to soccer. I'll never forget that. He was hilarious.

God speed Skip. And God bless your family.

You will be missed by this fan for sure,.

  5. he is not too bad, i'd give him a seven...but was it skip you listened to as a kid or was it harry carey? Anyway, i think vin scully is by far the best announcer going. And no, i'm not a dodger fan.

  6. Skip was a good guy but I don't rank him high on my list ot top announcers.  He was a long way from the caliber of announcers such as Red Barber and Vin Scully.

  7. He'll be in the top but Harry Kalas is #1

  8. Don't know about where I'd rank him, but Brave fans are gonna miss him as said, as others as they liked to impersonate him. Skip and Pete hung around all the losing seasons up til the divisional winning years.

  9. I don't know if he was in the all time greats, but he was definitely a good announcer, - from the old school, unlike all these monotone idiots who call games today. And he was 20 times better than his father. I always like Skip, I was surprised to see he passed. I have no doubt he'll be in the Hall at some point.

  10. I grew up listening to Skip and Pete in TBS while the Braves lost game after game during the mid to late 80's.  He was a phenomenal broadcaster with great knowledge of the game and a great sense of humor. I was devastated when TBS cut the Braves games to go with Sunday baseball of any team. I know he will be missed a lot by fans and the players and Braves office. It's a sad day for baseball.

I would put Skip Caray as an 8 too. An 8 is pretty good. RIP Skip.

  11. hahaha, for a moment I thought you said "I used to listen to him when my grandfather was a kid...."

I think he was a great announcer, maybe not all time great but great none-the-less.

  12. I found him dry and boring.

  13. Not in the top 20. Somewhere between 20 and 30. I'd give him a 7.
