Where do you recommend we stay and why -cozumel, tulum,cancun or playa del carmen?

we'll leave for a 10day vacation in mexico in 5 weeks. we'd like to stay at where the best beach is (calm waters) , best view of sunset/sunrise, shopping and great food. thanks..

Stay in Cancun if you want more to do, and take side trips to the other places you mentioned. Or stay in Cozumel if you want a smaller and more relaxing place. Either way, wherever you go, plan for it to be hot!  If you are going to Cozumel from Cancun, take the ferry boat and enjoy the beautiful color of the water or you will get ripped off (no need to pay for airplanes, for example).  And go to X-Caret (stay for the night show and dinner) and Chichen-Itza.  Well worth the price.

it depends if u single or not! me n some girl friends went to cancun and had a blast when my man n i went it wasnt so much fun but cancun was awesome try hawaii its beautiful!

Playa del Carmen has the best mix.  It's got a great beach (though that changes daily with the weather), you can see the sunrise over Cozumel on the horizon, the food is excellent with great choices of almost every cuisine imaginable (be sure to get away from La Quinta for the best prices), and pretty good shopping also.  It's got a very international feel with people from all over the world walking its streets and beaches.  There are good clubs, and the people-watching is fantastic.

Cancun is more of a cookie-cutter vacation; Cozumel is very cruise-ship oriented, though it's good for divers, too; Tulum has the most beautiful beaches around, but is very rustic and remote, if you stay on the beach itself.  All those places though are an easy day trip from Playa.

Wherever you go, you'll have a great trip!

Cozumel- great snorkeling and diving little nightlife but fun during the day . Tulum-relaxing but away from most everything without a rental car cost for taxi's could be expensive. Cancun- Lot's of action if your young 20something all night partying Playa- great shopping a short ferry ride to coz a a 30min ride to Tulum or Cancun check out your beach as the hurricanes hit this area hard, some have been rebuilt. Sunsets are great in all locations Food also is good everywhere. after you decide check out trip adviser forums they have a lot of info on food, shopping ETC.
