  1. I understand that many councils do not offer recycling of these items, we are lucky in that although they won't accept these items in our fortnightly domestic recycling box, they will  accept them at our local out of town recycling site. So we collect them up separately and when visiting the site to get rid of large household items we take them along too. Try lobbying your local council for a similar scheme, all they need to do is provide another hopper at the recycling site, and it works.

You can't simply put these items in with the plastic bottles etc. as they are composed of different plastics and their inclusion will result in the whole collection going to landfill. Unless you can get your council to act on this, you will have to dispose of these items along with your usual refuse. As councils pay a hefty amount for landfill, your request should be favourably received!

  2. We cannot recycle plastic bags but most supermarkets have a bin in store for these. Our council does not allow any plastic except bottles plus it is only fortnightly visit - one week glass/plastic, next tins and  paper.

take a look at your local recycle bins around the towns, they might take them.

Butter tubs are great for primary schools. the kids paint them and then they are used as bright containers to hold crayons and craft things.they can also be used to show children how plants grow. Yogurt pots - make your own bird feed with seeds and lard - put a holein the pot thread string through add the seeed mix - allow to go hard and hang from the tree.Crisp packets do shrink in the oven - place a safety pin in the back and put on a foil covered tray. pop in the oven and watch them shrink - let your kids sell them cheap - everyone will want one. (the same for some chocolate bar covers). Washing up bottles can be saved for a hot summers day - fill with water and let the kids have a water fight - better than letting them use a hose and cheaper than the water pistols. Think Blue Peter of the 1970's/ early 80's and I'm sure you'll find use for a lot of the items. I remember making a dolls house out of cardboard boxes, offcuts of wallpaper, things my mom would have thrown away and i had much more fun with it than a shop bought one. i still remember it.

Re-use saves the environment more than recycling.
