Where do you see the CFL going in the future?

I'm going vague on this question, so all answers are welcome.

I suppose my real question is, after somewhat of a downturn last season, is the league going to rebound or continue its fall? Will football return to Ottawa? Will it expand further? Will other teams fall?

  1. Honestly??? I think it'll stay the mostly the same... No, football will not return to Ottawa... If they really want a team, give them the Argos... No one in Toronto cares about anything but the Leafs... No, the league will not expand further, and no, I don't think any other teams will fail...

  2. The CFL has made the choice - actually, there was no option - that it could not compete the NFL.  Therefore, it must continue to offer good football, fun and a balanced league.

Any attempt to play on the NFL terms will result in a failure.  People do not expect the same from both leagues.

  3. With the C$85million TV deal and the US economy and dollar tanking, CFL salaries are staying competitive enough to keep good players.  Canadians are also realizing, after the departure of NHL teams that the league is theirs, not obedient on or dependent on the NFL and will continue to support it.

Five years ago, it took _8_ Canadian dollars to buy _5_ US dollars.

Today, it takes _7_ Canadian dollars to buy _6_ US dollars.

A CFL salary of $150,000 used to be worth US$100,000; now it's worth US$128,000, and with increased revenues comes increased salaries.  They still can't compete for the best or middle talent, but good players will still come.

  4. I would like to see the CFL expand to Halifax. Very large city, great sports fans and  in a market that is untested.

  5. Rather than return to Ottawa, I hope the CFL will put a team in the Maritime Provinces, hopefully in Halifax.  I also hope they stress the Canadian aspect of CFL.  Canadian football doesn't need such a heavy American influence.  Let's give more Canadians a chance to play and support our Canadian football players rather than Americans who couldn't make it in their own country.

  6. very far!

  7. I think the CFL will do all right. I can see them expanding to Halifax IF the shortsighted politicians get off their butts and build a decent stadium!

  8. The CFL cannot survive without a working relationship with the NFL. It is just too irrelevant internationally, whereas the NFL is expanding globally. Tell your commish to call my commish and have the CFL become the NFL Farm System; maybe NFL Canada sounds better.

On a competitve level, I seriously doubt any team in the CFL could match to any team in NFL Europe, much less the NFL.

Saints vs. Colts. Super Bowl XLI.

  9. YOU KIDDING? they will continue  to fall! they suck!  :oP

  10. all the guys who didnt make NFL will go there...so it will be alot like college with the desire to actualy play

and also all the players who break the NFL ban on drugs will go there

  11. You know what they need to do is bring in some marquee names. They need to shell out some big bucks, put a big name on every team and market them to death. The NFL is full of big name malcontents, that would go there for the money seeing as how that's all these losers care about. You could start with T.O bingo! He has pretty much wore out his welcome in the NFL and you would have instant publicity.

  12. What's the CFL. :)

  13. It should hold its own.  I do not see a return to Ottawa in the near future.  I am from the US and I like to watch the CFL more than the NFL.  It is just a better all around game.  Marketing for the CFL outside of Canada is non existent, as far as I can tell.  NFL does a better job.  Hope the Bombers improve this year.

  14. NOWERE!!!!!!

  15. At least you admit that was a vague question.

I would have to say eventually the CFL will return to Ottawa hopefully with the big R on the helmets again. You know some doofus owns the rights to that and the Rough Riders name and the last owners refused to pay him $100,000 to get those rights back.

Expansion is highly doubtful. For decades they talked about going into the Maritimes and I'm sorry, there just is not the population base there in Halifax. I could possibly see Quebec City as football has become quite popular in the province.

I think the CFL is basically on solid ground now so teams folding I think is not really a concern anymore.
