Where do you stand in banding homeschooling?

I'm against it because I am homeschooled. What do you think about it?

Banning homeschooling will never happen.  This is not Germany.  That thing in California is going to cost that judge his job.

I assume you mean you are against banning it, and I agree, banning homeschooling would be a violation of our right to choose.

You are against it because you are homeschooled? That's not a logical statement; I know plenty of homeschooled kids who are not against homeschooling and a number who would never set foot in a school. So, just because you're homeschooled doesn't lead to the logical conclusion that you would be against it.

I suspect that you are against it for one or more of the following reasons:

1) You and your parents have not found suitable social venues.

2) You have a poor relationship with your parents.

3) You were previously in public school and can not adapt to the change.

4) You, personally, are not suited to homeschooling.

5) Your parents aren't suited to homeschooling.

6) You aren't willing to make homeschooling the best it can be.

What I think about homeschooling is that it is what you make of it. I've met many happy homeschooling families who do a great job. I've met a few families I wonder about. I've known a few families to give up because they just found it too hard (this could have been for various reasons--the homeschooling itself, trying to adapt after the kids had been pulled out of school or other life issues that had to be taken care of and made homeschooling difficult). Most of the homeschooled kids I've ever met were very happy socially and as active as they wanted to be.

I am, therefore, very against banning homeschooling since it works for most people I know. Public school doesn't work for a lot of kids, but I would never suggest banning public school. I'm against my kids going to public school, but I'm certainly not against public schools.
