  2. the ocean

  3. Well, it couldn't be the "Bermuda Triangle" (which btw has no more disappearances than any other stretch of ocean), as she went down in the Pac.  Both her and her nav did some poor planning for this flight but not that bad....

    There's three theories:

1- She ran out of fuel, attempted a ditching and died during the attempt.  Most plausible as recent research has uncovered Coast Guard radio logs, and some wire recordings of Earhart about an hour before they lost contact.  Both her and her Nav reported they were low on fuel.

2- She crash landed on an island, survived the impact and died from dehydration/hunger/disease/injuries.  No reliable evidence for this

3- She went down and was captured by the Japanese, and died in prison/executed.  This is the most dramatic and has the most popular press coverage.  However, serious investigation shows zero documentation about a civilian Lockheed Electra crashing and survivors being interrogated.  Also no Japanese veteran of either the island garrison or the fleet she supposedly overflew mentioned anything close.  Finally, the islander accounts were repetitions of the same story-and have been refuted by forensic investigation.

FWIW, the retired USAF Navigator in me, plus using Occam's Razor makes me conclude that the first theory is the most likely

  4. Chances are, she ran out of fuel, and went into the ocean.  I don't think we will ever know, with the vastness of the ocean, and the length of time that has passed.

  5. Bermuda Triangle...

  6. Maybe the Bermuda Triangle, weird things happen there.

  7. On July 2, At 7:42 A.M. the Itasca picked up the message, "We must be on you, but we cannot see you. Fuel is running low. Been unable to reach you by radio. We are flying at 1,000 feet." The ship tried to reply, but the plane seemed not to hear. At 8:45 Earhart reported, "We are running north and south." Nothing further was heard from Earhart.

It is not that simple.  To "solve" the case, you would have to find her remains or those of her  twin engine Lockheed Electra.  Her sister's answer is probably correct.

Her sister said that she believed that Amelia had simply gotten lost in the storm, ran out of fuel, and crashed into the ocean without a trace.

Conspiratorially minded scholars have advanced several theories concerning Amelia Earhart’s disappearance. Some suggest that her trip was a front for espionage: she had been photographing Japanese military installations and ship movements and had been taken prisoner, held on the island of Saipan, and then executed. Others agree that she was a prisoner, but that she was confined within Emperor Hirohito’s palace in Tokyo.

And still others argue that Earhart and Noonan survived the crash and found shelter on an uninhabited atoll, where, it is variously said, they died of exposure, thirst, or food poisoning.

  8. The most definitive explanation is offered in a best selling book "Amelia Earhart Survived" by Rollin C. Reineck.  Here's in an article from that book:

    Good luck!

  9. dude she ran out of gas and crashed into the ocean. serisouly

  10. I've actually always wondered that too. I mean she was so great at flying and then she goes across Atlantic and disappears. I don't think why weird things happen in the Bermuda Triangle also, and wonder if we ever will.

I guess she could have survived and lived somewhere else in different country not knowing how to contact her loved ones. Or she did run out of fuel and then died in the ocean she crashed into. (Atlantic) Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

  11. I think she went to Africa to have an affair with a married man,

  12. She went to swim with the fishes.
