Try charity shops - ask the shop assistants as they often have a stock upstairs, but don't put them all out on display.

you could try freecycle in your area.  It's a website where people can post things they want to give away for free and for others to post what they are looking for.  In your case you could ask for a Scrabble game. People give and recive all sorts of things through Freecycle.org
