The last name is 'Serhn'. Where would someone with this last name have come from? Is it a German name, maybe? Please leave suggestions! (And sources would be helpful.)

  1. Yukio doesn't know German. He is confusing sehr with serhn and also vergessen with forgessen. I don't think Serhn is a german name but a lot of eastern europeans (and jews) used to live in Germany.

  2. Did you check  Ellis Island immigration book?

You can do it on line.

    good luck.

  3. There is very limited informaton on the SERHN surname on ancestry.com .  It appears very few people immigrated to the U.S. with this surname.

A Casper SERHN arrived in 1841 and seems to have originated from Deutchland (Germany)

There are birth records out of the UK, but no details on where their parents may have been born. (see below)

Mary Ann Serhn 1859 Jan-Feb-Mar    District: Lambeth  County Greater London, London, Surrey

    Henry Serhn 1862 Jan-Feb-Mar    District:Beaminster

    County: Dorset, Somerset

In 1900 Lizzie and Andrew SERHN (both born in Hungary) are living with their son, Andrew (born in Pennsylvania) in Adams(town), Cambria(cournty), Pennsylvania.

That is pretty much all the information.  So, in answer to your question...maybe Germany, Hungary, U.K., or ????

You really need to trace your own family back in order to find out the actual information as surnames can originate in multiple locations.

    Good luck...
