Where do you think the following surname SOUNDS like it comes from?

The Surname "Emovon" is pronounced "EM-O-VON", and is of African orgin. What I want to know is; does it sound like it comes from that region or whether it sounds like it comes from elsewhere. If so, please state where e.g European, Italian, Japanese etc

  3. Sounds, German, Nordic, could be Croation,Transylvanian, you know in that area of the world,Could also be South African, again Germanic peoples. My best guest is Dutch, German people. So now tell us if you know.

  4. Sounds like an Eastern European (German) descent.

  5. Nigeria around Benin City - look at the old Bendal State which is now split into Edo and Delta.  Why should it have any other origin?  Sounds as though it should be from there

  6. I have just checked out the European Genealogy sites for you and only recent births include "Emovon" However a number of births with this surname in England in the late 50 s and 60 s were of Nigerian descent. Hope this narrows it down a bit for you.

  7. If the name is of African origin, that is it's origin.

    What it SOUNDS LIKE is the most useless thing in the world. WHY would you worry about where it sounds like, if you ALREADY have factual information about where it came from?

  8. An English women I know married an African with a Japenese sounding name. She tells me many African surnames sound Japanese, but it also may be Eastern European.

    I dont see any basque or germanic root in the spelling nor in the sound...!!!!!
