About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government."

"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury."

">From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years"

"During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. from bondage to spiritual faith;

2. from spiritual faith to great courage;

3. from courage to liberty;

4. from liberty to abundance;

5. from abundance to complacency;

6. from complacency to apathy;

7. from apathy to dependence;

8. from dependence back into bondage"

  1. We all will have an opinion  on this subject. I am a firm believer, that the God I serve will soon come back to get me and those that love and believe in Him.  As I see America, falling very fast. and see how blind the people have become to the truth..So My souls rejoicing. and redemption's is on the way. I plan on being ready to meet my savior in the air.  God Bless.

  2. I think, if Tyler were alive today, he would have added a number nine. From bondage to total destruction. If we don't blow up the world, we certainly  will pollute it beyond our means for it to sustain life.

  3. we are at the end

    2012 is the end

  4. Number 8 / The govt says were on our own .....

    Kinda like the GOLDEN RULE isn't it....... It looks like payback for American treatment of Native Americans.....followed by altering the rest of the world in a negative way...

  5. Bible Scholar, Dr. Harold Camping says, on the radio, that we are now living in the time of tribulation, and that according to the timeline of all occurances, and prophecies, in the Bible, he has come to the conclusion that the earth will end, as we know it, on October 21st, 2011.

  6. I think a certain segment of the population would fall into #8, I doubt it would ever happen for the remaining majority. Rome was once a super power, as was England. Though they no longer hold that status, the citizens are not in bondage. I do think our next president can make an impact, it is the entire government structure that is failing. We the citizens have a choice to rid ourselves of our self serving elected officials, however the average person is unaware of the real problems in this country. Look what the democratic majority in congress has done. One year ago the economy was fine. They refuse to do a thing about it, probably because they want a democrat in the whitehouse. The worse the economy looks, and the other issues unchanged, the better chance they have of getting their candidate elected. This self serving congress will allow the voters to pay for their version of democracy. The voters can stop that by not electing democrats in the general election. By doing that, it is not likely they will try to sway the voters like that again. They are using hitler like tactics to get what they want.
