Where does HANDBALL originate from? Its so bizarre!?

Never seen anyone play handball in Australia so call me naive!

Its the weirdest sport ive watch at the Olympics..besides tae kwon do (but thats a whole different question!!)..

It is played heaps in Europe and I think they said it originated in Japan but don't quote me on that.  I too am from Australia and had not seen it before the Olympics.

I am guessing Europe seeing how they usually dominate it and quite a few sports which Europeans dominate were introduced to the Olympics by the IOC powerhouses from Europe....nudge nudge wink wink.

It's a pretty violent sport isnt it?

LOL!  I agree...it's not the handball that I know of!  But maybe you haven't been paying attention to the Winter Olympics and a curious game known as Curling!  The first time I saw it with the competitors using brooms...what the h**l?

Now I'm kinda curious about your issues with Tae Kwon Do since I've practiced it before?

Handball-like games have originated in several places at different times. Hieroglyphs in the temple of Osiris in Egypt portray priests taking part in a game very similar to handball. Mesoamerican civilizations in South and Central America had a form of handball-like game, which was a large part of pre-Columbian culture.

The modern game of handball originated in Ireland and Scotland. The earliest written record of a handball game is in the town statutes of Galway, which in 1527 forbade the playing of ball games against the walls of the town.

All ball-games involve propelling the ball in one way or another down-field to a goal or net , if you came from darkest Africa Aussie rules or grid-iron would seem bizarre !
