Question:

Where does Ken Griffey Jr fit in with the White Sox?

They already have Jermaine Dye in right, and MVP candidate Carlos Quentin in left. If they put him back in center, where does that leave Nick Swisher. He can also play first, but Pauly Konerko plays there...the only place i see him playing is 3rd base, but then what about when Joe Crede comes back??

  1. he's going to play center and move swisher to patoon at first with konerko

  2. that's a very good question. konerko would probably be the odd man out. his batting average has been low, and swisher will probably replace him at first. if that happens, center field will be a liability because we don't know if griffey has the mobility to play center field. griffey can't be the regular DH because thome has that spot. i like the idea of konerko moving to third, i don't know how it will work out defensively, but konerko is a proven hitter who's been off recently. they might want to move thome to first for konerko and put griffey at the DH spot if thome is ok with it.

  3. Dye stays in right, Quentin stays in left obviously and Griffey can play Center. You move Swisher to first and just give Konerko a start every now and then. Being that Paulie is hitting a miserable .214 with just 9 HR's.

  4. Centerfield and he will platoon with Swisher.  Ozzie has hinted that Konerko needs "rest", in other words just an excuse to get him out of there.  Don't expect that much from Griffey at this point of his career.  I think that he is slighter better hitter then Edmonds on the North Side but isn't even close to the same fielder anymore.  If he hits .270 with about 10-12 HR's 35-40 RBI's, I would be thrilled.

  5. He will play center against righties mostly but may play a little first base and pinch hit. Not en everyday player. Definitely not 3rd base. That made me laugh.

  6. While it's true that Jr. is past his prime, I think he still has alot of production in him. I think he will benefit from playing at the Cell and will get chances to see some good pitches because of Dye, Quentin, Thome.

I am not sure where they are going to put him. I think this trade might have been made because the Sox are starting to lose patience with Konerko and the slump he's been in.

Maybe, they will give Jr. a chance in the center and move Swisher to first. Jr. wouldn't have to play the whole game, but just enough to get two or three at bats. Then, Anderson or Wise will replace him for defensive reasons.

But, with Crede out and with Konerko in a slump, the Sox have a hole in their line up. Perhaps Jr. can help partially fill it.

    PS:

In tonight's game against the Royals, Ozzie did exactly the same thing that I wrote. Griffey started in Center, got some good at bats under his belt and then was replaced by Anderson in the top of the 8th. Swisher played first and Konerko got the night off. This is exactly how the Sox will use Junior.

  7. He plays in center field and they put Konerko on the bench

  8. Griffey will play against the right handed pitchers and then someone else will play against lefties most likely. Griffey is coming off his best month of the year.

  9. On their DL I'm guessing in about a week and a half.

  10. you mean the Nick Swisher Clone?
