  1. In Kenya, on the plateau near the mountains.  High altitude, low latitude, and acidic soil are necessary to grow top quality coffee beans, which are three things Kenya has in abundance in those areas.

Although coffee is most often associated with Colombia and central America, it was first cultivated in Kenya's neighbor, Ethiopia, near a town called Kaffe, hence the beverage's name.  Thus Kenya is actually an unsurprising place for coffee to be highly cultivated.

Other surprising producers of high-quality coffee are the island of Jamaica (home to the famous Blue Mountain estates), and Hawaii on the slopes of Mt. Hualalai, in the districts of North and South Kona.  Hawaii is the only place in the USA that is able to grow coffee beans.

Edit: you may also be interested to know that Kenya is among the world's fastest growers of tea, as well.  The soil and atmospheric conditions that make for good coffee also produce high quality tea.
