Where does Mexico's Copper Canyon get its name from?

I was just wondering about the copper part. Is it that a lot of copper is found there? Because the actual canyon doesn't seem copper in appearance, color-wise.

  1. I think the Mining boom in the early XX century had something to do with the canyons name.

    Copper, Silver, Coal and Gold are some Minerals founded in those years thrroughout the canyons..........


  2. From the Copper thats there.  Copper Canyon is actually larger than the Grand Canyon!
