Where does a Foreign Service Officer live?

I want to apply to be a Foreign Service Officer. I know there is a salary range of 40-45k for me. Where do foreign service officers live? Is there a military base-like embassy in every country? Would I have to seek my own place in wherever I'm stationed if I get this job? OR do I live at the embassy or housing provided for us and get to keep all money I make?
