  1. active transport takes place in cells as part of homeostasis. It only occurs when the cell is getting rid of something that doesn't belong because it uses energy.

  2. Active transport is the use of ENERGY to move particles against a concentration gradient from a LOW concentration to a HIGH concentration. This means in an area where a type of particle is sparse energy is used to move it to where there is more of that type of particle. In the body active transport takes place in selective re-absorbtion (the re-absorbing of essential particles before excretion) this is seen where the glucose- where it is in a low concentration in the nephron- is then absorbed into the bloodstream- where the glucose is at a higher concentration. However, to move the glucose from where it is at a low density to where it at a high density requires energy- hence, it is an example of active transport.
