Where does canada get there oil?

Canada has oil in Alberta (oil sands) and off the coast of Newfoundland (Hibernia). We extract this oil, refine it in Canada, and sell it to various countries along with using it in Canada.

Even with these sources, it is actually less expensive to purchase oil from Saudi Arabia and other sources than it is to extract and refine it here. As a result, Canada does import about half the oil it consumes every day.

Canada imports the majority of its oil, but Albertas oil sands are also a major source of oil.  See the link below.  As time goes by oil sands are likely to become a more important source.  That is because even though it is expensive to get oil out of the sands the more the cost of oil rises the more it makes sense.
