  1. This is a tough subject for me. In a nut shell, NCLB "hurts" every child it was set up to "protect." It leaves all children behind. It needs complete and total reform.

  2. I'm not sure what your question means. NCLB is a federal law that is to make sure all public school kids are reading at grade level. And the way this is determined is that all the kids take state tests every year.

ALL kids take these tests, whether they have dyslexia or not.

  3. no child left behind (NCLB) is mandated testing at different grade levels in different subjects - the basic philosophy is that "all kids can learn if we teach them more effectively".  If a student is Dyslexic - they would likely have to take the tests the same as all other students.  One of the things that is inherently wrong with NCLB is that schools can only have a very small percentage of students take what is called an 'alternative assessment'.  That is typically saved for the most severe profound students at that particular grade.

If the student with dyslexia is receiving services on an IEP because of identified educational impact,  typically under Specific Learning Disability, and has some accomodations - they can use those accomodations on any tests to the extent allowed.   If they are NOT on an IEP or have modifications under a 504 - they would be required to take the tests like anyone else - AND be expected to reach an appropriate score.
