Example, let's say the electricty is produced by hydroelectricty and then comes to my town, my house and then on to many other places. When the electricty that is produced between 10:30 and say, 12:30 goes out from the dam then to my town, and house etc.. where does any that is left over go? Does it come back to the source and start over?

  1. Electricity is put on the national grid. If it is not sold in your area it will be available  to another connected area and be sold there.

  2. There is no "start" and "end" point...

  3. I think you are thinking, each generation station makes the fixed amount and somehow, we are collectively using what is allotted to us.

Actaully, that is NOT what is happening.

There are many generation stations and each has a CAPABILITY of making certain amount.  As we each turn on appliances, we pull from one or more stations, depending on how the authorities distribute the power.

When we (collectively) approach the max that can be delivered, more powers are diverted from stations with spare capabilities.

Perhaps it is easier if we just say there is ONE house and ONE power station.  If you don't turn anything on, the current flowing through the transmission line, thus what is generated at the power station is ZERO.  When you turn on a lamp, let's say 100 watts, the line will carry 100 watts worth of power, and the station will generate 100 watts.

The trouble is, if the station is only capable of producing 150 watts and you turn on two 100 watts power.  Now, you are pulling more than what it can produce.  Since you didn't ask about this condition, I won't go into it, but do you see the system now?

The power generated at 10:30 at the dam is at your house less than a second later.  Remember how fast electricity travels?  What is generated always equal what was consumed and vise versa.  There is such thing as spare capability to generate, but never spare amount is generated.

  4. The power company has fancy computers that monitor how much power is needed, and they only end that much out.

  5. it is hot meaning aways on, you use what you need, and when you need it again, you got it...
